NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital's Clinical Laboratory Science Program, which has been in existence for over four decades, offers comprehensive training in both theory and practice. Formal academic instruction provides both a theoretical basis in various subject areas and an understanding of the medical problems which may underlie a physician's request for laboratory services. The program involves a full-time, one-year commitment where students concurrently engage in both didactic and clinical educational experiences.†Students study all fields related to the laboratory sciences, including clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology, blood bank, urinalysis and body fluids, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, coagulation, safety, education topics, management, quality control, and patient ethics.

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospitalís Clinical Laboratory Science Program has made a firm commitment to provide outstanding clinical laboratory science education through quality instruction, research and service. The program is committed to the task of assuring that graduates have the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude that are required to meet current and future professional roles and positions as laboratory practitioners and members of the healthcare team.

Goals

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospitalís Clinical Laboratory Science Program offers an educational program where studentsí complete didactic coursework and a clinical internship over a period of one year†at the certificate level. The program offers both didactic and clinical experience through all areas of Clinical Laboratory Science.†The program will provide the didactic and clinical instruction necessary to:

  • Ensure graduates have obtained the entry level competencies needed to work as a clinical laboratory scientist.
  • Instill the highest standards of performance and professional ethics in all graduates.
  • Provide educational opportunities for students to assume leadership roles in their profession and their communities.
  • Prepare students to assume their role in scientific communities.
  • Prepare students to successfully function as problem solvers utilizing critical thinking skills.

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospitalís Clinical Laboratory Science Program has affiliation agreements in place with several colleges and universities that allows their students to complete their fourth year of their medical technology degree at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospitalís Clinical Laboratory Science Program. Upon graduating from New York Methodist Hospitalís Clinical Laboratory Science Program, graduates will receive credits towards the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology from their affiliated institution.
